Advanced Atomization Technologies · Closed-Loop Recycling · Localized Production & Support

CNPC Powder, a leading global supplier of advanced metal powders for additive manufacturing (AM), has announced the start of construction on a new production and R&D factory in California, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the North American market and its growing demand for domestic AM supply chains.
With this new manufacturing factory in California, we will fulfill a long-standing request from our U.S. customers by providing them with even faster access to our alloys, along with personalized local technical support and greater supply chain control for critical applications in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, 3C, medical, energy, and industrial.
Initial production is supposed to be begin in the first quarter of 2027. The facility, with a floor space of 2,000 square meters, will feature up to six fully automated atomization production lines specializing in high-performance aluminum powders, titanium, nickel-based superalloys, stainless steel, and special alloys for industrial-scale additive manufacturing.
Designed to meet the needs of the U.S. manufacturing industry
As additive manufacturing becomes increasingly integrated into mass production, manufacturers are placing greater emphasis on a stable domestic supply chain, shorter approval cycles, and enhanced process traceability. The production facility in California has been specifically designed to address these operational challenges.By localizing production and technical support within the U.S., CNPC Powder aims to help customers reduce lead times, minimize logistics risks, lower inventory costs, and accelerate product development cycles.
With these facilities, the company will significantly shorten delivery times for many North American customers—from several weeks to just a few days—while also enabling more agile engineering collaboration and on-site support for product implementation.
Advanced atomization technologies for high-performance applications
The California facility will deploy CNPC Powder’s portfolio of advanced atomization and powder-processing technologies, enabling production of highly spherical, low-oxygen powders engineered for demanding AM applications.Core production technologies include:
- VIGA (Vacuum Induction Gas Atomization): for high-purity nickel, steel, and specialty alloys
- EIGA (Electrode Induction Gas Atomization): optimized for reactive materials such as titanium alloys
- PREP (Plasma Rotating Electrode Process): for ultra-clean aerospace and medical-grade powders
- PS (Plasma Spheroidization): for enhanced flowability and particle uniformity
- AMP Platform (Advanced Metallurgy Powder): CNPC Powder’s proprietary smart production system integrating real-time monitoring, closed-loop process control, and high-quality management

These technologies enable tight control over particle size distribution, sphericity, satellite formation, oxygen levels, and powder flow characteristics, key factors that directly impact print consistency, density, surface finish, and mechanical performance in additive manufacturing.
The company states that the architecture of its process is designed to ensure both the repeatability and scalability of the powder, two of the main challenges currently facing the adoption of additive manufacturing in the industrial sector.
Closed-Loop Recycled Powders: Low-Carbon AM Aligned with ESG

The California site integrates a fully closed-loop recycling system, turning production scrap, used parts, and waste powder into certified high-quality 3D printing powder recycled Ti/Al powders with SCS carbon certification
- >60% carbon emission reduction — strongly aligned with US IRA and customer ESG goals
- Qualified for mass supply for green AM production

The California-based plant will initially focus on high-value-added materials widely used in industrial additive manufacturing applications, including:
- Aluminum alloys, including Scalmalloy® engineered for lightweight automotive and aerospace applications
- Titanium alloys (Ti-6Al-4V) for aerospace structures, orthopedic implants, and lightweight performance components
- Nickel-based superalloys, including Inconel 718, Inconel 625, and Hastelloy-series materials for high-temperature environments
- Steel alloys for medical and industrial applications
- Copper Alloys
The company will also offer custom alloy development services for customers requiring alloys with enhanced heat resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, or weight-reduction properties
An R&D and Rapid Alloy Development Center
In addition to production capacity, the California factory Center will feature an on-site alloy development and rapid certification center staffed by application engineers and materials specialists in next step. The center will support:
- Rapid prototyping and small-batch alloy development
- Powder parameter optimization for customer print platforms
- Material characterization and validation
- Process support for qualification and scale-up
- Collaborative development for next-generation AM materials
This tailored engineering model is designed to provide our expertise and guide customers in shortening approval timelines and accelerating the commercialization of new additive manufacturing programs.
Leading the next wave of industrial additive manufacturing
The investment in a California factory is part of CNPC Powder’s broad strategy to expand its regional manufacturing and technical support capabilities in key global additive manufacturing markets.Currently, the company serves customers in the aerospace, automotive, medical, electronics, and industrial sectors worldwide and holds certifications such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, and SCS certification for recycled content.
"Additive manufacturing is entering a new phase where material consistency, localized supply, and engineering responsiveness matter more than ever. Our California facility is designed to help manufacturers scale AM production with stable, eco-friendly, and cost-efficient materials, delivered faster, with deeper technical support, and a more resilient supply chain built closer to where innovation happens."
